Marriage Equality |
|
| |
Dear PFLAG Supporters,
No doubt you have heard the disappointing news from Albany. The marriage bill was defeated 38 to 24. Not one Republican voted for the bill.
Back during the regular Legislative calendar, the week the marriage vote was supposed to have happened, Don and I attended a meeting. At that meeting, we were told that it looked very good and that there were enough votes to pass it including some Republicans. Then the Senate coup. Republicans and Democrats polarized against one another. Now it looks like the Senators are playing politics with the lives of our loved ones. I for one am angry and disappointed.
I can not believe that there is not even one Republican in the Senate that has a gay or lesbian loved one that they would want to support. Not only did every Republican Senator vote no on the bill, not one of them stood to explain why they were voting against it.I have sent an email to every Republican Senator to share my anger and disappointment. I will also be sending them a written letter as well.
